Why Proper Care Matters
Wood is a natural material that expands and contracts with moisture and temperature changes, so taking proper care of wood board will:
- Extend their lifespan
- Preserve the natural grain and finish
- Prevent warping and cracking
How to Clean Wooden Cutting Boards and River Charcuterie Boards
Daily Cleaning Steps
- Wipe off food debris using a damp cloth or paper towel immediately after use.
- Wash with mild soap and warm water, using a soft sponge or cloth. Avoid using harsh detergents or scrubbing pads.
- Rinse thoroughly to remove any soap residue.
- Dry immediately with a clean towel.
- Never soak the board in water or put it in the dishwasher, as excessive moisture can cause swelling and warping.
How to Condition Wooden Cutting & Charcuterie Boards
Regular conditioning will keep your wood boards well hydrated!
Conditioning Instructions:
- Choose a conditioner designed for wooden boards. We use Howard’s Butcher Block Conditioner. *avoid olive or vegetable oils as they can become rancid.
- Apply a generous amount of oil using a clean cloth or paper towel. Cover all sides, including the edges.
- Let the oil soak in for at lease an hour or if possible, overnight for deeper penetration.
- Wipe off excess oil with a dry cloth before using the board again.
How Often to Condition Your Board:
- For frequently used cutting boards: Once a week
- For charcuterie boards used occasionally: Once a month
